Tiles

From Terra Nil Wiki

Tiles are part of the world geometry; they are used to represent the ground, the water, lava, fire and much more. When starting a brand-new save file in Terra Nil or Terra Nil Prototype, the world will generate as a barren wasteland, where the only tiles you see are Wasteland, Dry Riverbed and Rock tiles.

List of Tiles

Wasteland Tiles

Name Tile Description Creation Criteria
Ash Ash Ash tiles act as a source of nutrition that aids in the growing of Forest tiles, it is a byproduct of Fire burning tiles that have been restored. The Ash tile is a byproduct of a wildfire that is created when a Solar Amplifier is used to ignite a field of Fynbos tiles, which then causes the fire to spread to all tiles that are restored and connect to the initial ignition point of the Fire. Historically in the old Terra Nil Demo, Ash tiles were created by using the now removed Dessicator building, it would need to be placed on multiple Fynbos tiles and then ignited by a Solar Amplifier before the ground catches on Fire.
Burnt Building Burnt Building Burnt Building tiles are the remnants of any building that has been burned down by Fire. Burnt Building tiles are the remnants of any building that has been burnt by Fire. Any building can be turned into a Burnt Building tile, they are created by burning Fynbos tiles or Tundra tiles with the use of a Solar Amplifier, this causes a fire that spreads to any restored tiles and buildings that connect to the initial ignition point. Burnt Building tiles are only used as a requirement to propagate Forest tiles through the use of an Arboretum.
Cliff Cliff The Cliff tile is one of the universal base tiles for every wasteland area, it separates low land from high land. It can only be created by using a Radial Excavator that deposits dirt on low land or higher land.
Dry Riverbed Dry Riverbed Dry Riverbed tiles are one of the universal base tiles for every wasteland area, it is connected together to make dried out rivers. The Dry Riverbed tile can be created by using the Excavator on converted tiles in order to create a new river. The Dry Riverbed tiles will be converted to Water tiles if a nearby Water Pump is present.
Polluted Ocean Polluted Ocean Polluted Ocean tiles are one of the universal base tiles for every wasteland area that features an ocean comprised of saltwater. This tile cannot be created.
Wasteland Wasteland The Wasteland tile is one of the universal base tiles for every wasteland area. The Wasteland tile can be created when using the Excavator near or on converted tiles, when melting polluted Snow tiles with a Solar Amplifier, and when using an Undersea Dredger to relocate earth into Polluted Ocean tiles or Ocean tiles.

Greenery Tiles

Name Tile Description Creation Criteria
Rock Rock Rock tiles are the only tiles that can be moved or placed on top of ground tiles. Rock tiles can be created by placing the the Calcifier along a restored riverbed, by placing the Mineralizer along a restored beach, using the Seismic Detonator to cause Lava tiles to touch Polluted Ocean tiles or Ocean tiles, using the Igneous Heatsink to convert nearby Lava tiles into Rock tiles and by using the Carbon Compactor to turn trees into a circle of Rock tiles around the Carbon Compactor. Rock tiles are used as an elevated location for the Turbine, the Water Pump, the Combustor, the Cloud Seeder, the Dehumidifier, the Loading Dock, the Monorail Node, the Flash Freezer, the Pylon and the Radiation Cleanser.
Soil Soil Soil tiles provide the base for almost every other restored tile type, it generates Leafs + when converted and restored from a Wasteland tile. Soil tiles can be created by placing a Toxin Scrubber on top of Wasteland tiles.
Greenery Greenery Greenery tiles provide Leafs + when converted. Greenery tiles can be created by using the Irrigator or the Pipe Hub on Soil tiles, by placing a Water Pump on top of Dry Riverbed tiles, and they can also be created once the Weather System has been mostly or fully restored causing it to rain, rain will convert all remaining Wasteland tiles into Greenery tiles if each of those tiles are hit by rain.
Ocean Ocean Ocean tiles provide Leafs + when converted from Polluted Ocean tiles. Ocean tiles can be created by using the Toxin Scrubber on Wasteland tiles adjacent to Polluted Ocean tiles and they can also be created once the Weather System has been mostly or fully restored causing it to rain, rain will convert all remaining Polluted Ocean tiles into Ocean tiles if each of those tiles are hit by rain.
Wetland Wetland The Wetland tile provides Leafs + per tile converted from Greenery tiles/Wasteland tiles when using the Hydroponium by placing it on an Irrigator placed within proximity of a water source. Can be created by placing a Hydroponium on top of an Irrigator within 5 tiles of Water.
Fynbos Fynbos The Fynbos tile provides Leafs + when converted from Greenery when using a Beehive placed on a Pine Tree, these can be turned into Ash tiles and then Forest tiles when using the Solar Amplifier, Dessicator and then the Arboretum. Can be created by placing a Beehive on any Tree.
Fire Fire Fire tiles are the only tiles that can destroy buildings and restored tiles at the same time uncontrollably. Fire tiles can be created by using a Solar Amplifier to light a fire on nearby Fynbos tiles or Tundra tiles. Historically in the old Terra Nil Demo, Fire tiles were created by using the now removed Dessicator building, it would need to be directly placed on Fynbos tiles and then lit by the Solar Amplifier to create a Fire.
Forest Forest Forest tiles provide habitation to forest-dwelling animals and provide a dense source of Trees. Forest tiles are created by placing the Arboretum building on top of a Burnt Building tile, unlike the Hydroponium, the Aroboretum cannot convert Wasteland tiles or Greenery tiles into Forest tiles, it can only convert Ash tiles into Forest tiles.
